BETH FLEENOR: WORKSHOP ENSEMBLE (WE)

METRILODIC

Frankly Mondays (Can Be Awesome)

The Royal Room

5000 Rainier Ave S

8pm

Hailed as "alternately buoyant and ponderous, transfixing and exceptional" (City Arts), Beth Fleenor's Workshop Ensemble (WE) is a 12-piece modular band that performs her chamber works. Grounded in learning and working Fleenor's 20 Etudes for Blindfolded Musicians, WE also work in conduction and sonic meditation. Through the use of blindfolds to heighten listening/awareness, WE cultivate focused intention, highlighting that intention as a respected member of the ensemble.

Featuring Eric Barber on sax & electronics, MetriLodic is an all-original, freely improvising trio that breaks most of the rules of groove-based ensembles, with Paul Kemmish (electric bass) & Byron Vannoy (drums). MetriLodic's music inhabits ecstatic spaces at once, multimetric grooves there and gone, raw and refined.
