Flora McGill

Flora McGill is a an extremely versatile vocalist and performer/composer with a powerful presence and vocal prowess that ranges from demure and sensual to driving mad.  Her emphasis on range of style and spontaneity have earned her performance opportunities in nightculbs, theaters, symphony halls, galleries, festivals, and at private functions, in her time based in Seattle, New York, and Brazil.  Flora has also been featured on a number of recordings including Jovino Santos Neto's 2003 Grammy Nominated record, Canto do Rio (Liquid City).

Flora's original works could be described as Neo-Soul with undercurrents of Bossa Nova and Indie Pop, but then she also writes Folk tunes - and sometimes just performs improvisationally, spontaneously composing lyrics over deep pocketed Funk grooves, Blues, Pop, or Soul.  She has worked with artists including Jovino Santos Neto in Brazilian, and Julian Priester in Jazz, but her background also includes commerical work, as well as performances on Rock and Calypso recordings.  Her current band, which performs entirely original work, is comprised of Josh Rawlings - keyboards, Evan Flory-Barnes - bass, and Adam Kessler - drums.  The band was recently in the studio working on a new recording to be released in 2007.

"Flora McGill is a songbird who weaves beautiful melodies that linger in the ear.  One of the best vocalists I have ever worked with.  Her work on my Latin Grammy-nominated CD Canto do Rio made it sound unique and I am honored by her participation on it."

- Jovino Santos Neto
