Described by Earshot Jazz as the Northwest's "premier large jazz group" the 13 piece Jim Knapp Orchestra presents a fresh approach to big band jazz using the finest musicians in the Puget Sound area. The music is a blend of originals and standards as penned by the leader, Jim Knapp. The orchestra has three records: "On Going Home" for Seabreeze (Los Angeles), "Things For Now" for A-Records (Amsterdam) and "Secular Breathing" for Origin (Seattle). "Jim Knapp's music is full of intensity, emotion, and creative textures. it's among the best of orchestral jazz being written these days." - Maria Schneider
Knapp developed the Jazz Program at Cornish College of the Arts in the late '70's and continues to teach there. He is represented as a composer and/or performer on the ECM, Challenge/A-Records, Origin, Seabreeze, Flying Fish, Catalyst, and Mode record labels. Jim's education includes BA and MA degrees in Music Composition from the University of Illinois. |
